Cloud base above southern Finland raised approximately to 7500 ft QNH and pilots had to leave good thermals already at 6000 ft QNH. 1500 extra feet would have made it a lot easier to fly to the TP's in the west where skies were clear due to sea-breeze and returning to good soaring conditions would have been safer.
Due to the inaccuracy of the weather forecasts the tasks assigned to day were hopelessly short compared to actual conditions. Unfortunately this was not known before the launching was started. However, having two days with lots of outlandings behind, the competitors did not mind the task assignment with moderately short tasks. Except two misfortunate fellows all pilots could now enjoy the thrill of crossing the finish line.
The 15m class winner today was Tapani Uoti (FIN), who was overwhelmingly fast beating the second, Daniel Vincent-Genod (F) almost by 10 km/h. The third was the winner of the first day, Thomas Göstner (I) who still leads the 15m class in the total results.
Standard 205km task was assigned to a slightly better weather area than that of the 15m class and the low ceiling assigned did not cause as much trouble here. The French, once again, showed off their phenomenal capability to soar. Messieurs Julien Henry, Laurent Aboulin and Eric Soubrier flew the task in almost at the same speed, 102 km/h. The best Finn today was Heikki Horma, being the fourth at 96 km/h. In addition to him there were only two Finns in top ten: Asko Pankka and Juha Sorri. Total results show that Julien Henry still leads before the young Italian Riccardo Brigliadori. Juha Sorri is the third and Asko Pankka the fourth after the second competition day.
